Hillsides
Hillsides has always created safe places for children; strengthened families, provided special education; and advocated for children’s rights. From its inception in 1913 as an Episcopal Orphanage, The Church Home for Children, until its present-day status as a private, nonprofit foster care and treatment center, Hillsides has never wavered from its commitment to creating a safe place for children. Although it began as an orphanage, Hillsides now works to end the cycle of child abuse that destroys children and tears families apart. Loving care, therapeutic healing, special education, family crisis intervention and children's rights advocacy are at the heart of the agency's mission. These priorities were created by the vision of Deaconess Evelyn Wile. At Hillsides, children suffering from abuse and mental illness can still find a "safe place" to call home. Today, the children’s charity located in Pasadena is considered an official institution of the Los Angeles Diocese of the Episcopal Church.

Westside Food Bank
Westside Food Bank is an independent, non-governmental, 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation founded twenty seven years ago, which provides food to social service agencies on the Westside of Los Angeles County. Our food often enables low-income people to stay in their homes, deterring the problem of homelessness, because it saves them from having to make the agonizing choice between paying for rent or food when they can’t afford both. Receiving our food also enables our 65 member-agencies to devote more of their own resources to other ways of helping clients achieve self respect and economic independence.

This scholarship is named in memory of Lisa A. Davidson, a gifted public service coordinator at KNBC-TV and PIRATES member, who died tragically at a young age in an automobile accident. The purpose of this scholarship program is to recognize outstanding students who have excellent potential for improving the lives of people in Southern California through a communications career. A Special Thanks To Our MC Brent Seltzer for volunteering his time and comedic talents to bring laughs to the guests! Brent Seltzer, who is back on the air doing a 2 minute commentary in morning drive on KSRO in Santa Rosa, " Brent Seltzer Still at Large", entertained us as our MC. “Still At Large” is based on Brent’s quick wit…and total lack of respect for all things that are…well, all things.

"My thanks to all of you for your efforts, talents and generosity in making the event a success. I think we raised a nice amount of money for the scholarship fund, it was really nice to have everyone together. Have a great holiday season!" Robin Gee, PIRATES President.
